Review: De La Espada at 3daysofdesign 2026

“There’s emotion in materials, in craft, in objects that live and change with us over time. Our Tempus exhibition, created with our friends Garde Hvalsøe, celebrates time as a central ingredient in design,”
Luis De Oliveira, co-founder of De La Espada.

De La Espada and Garde Hvalsøe teamed up for 3daysofdesign for the third consecutive year, expressing our shared values in the Tempus exhibition. Open from June 10-12, 2026, and extended throughout the summer, Tempus explores the relationship between time, craft and inheritance, asking how design can endure beyond trends and lifetimes.

Set within the Garde Hvalsøe showroom, Tempus merges De La Espada furniture from across our design partnerships with Garde Hvalsøe's signature kitchens and handcrafted interiors; a tribute to expert craftsmanship and enduring design from Portugal to Denmark.

Sensitively curated by Pernille Vest with a view to amplifying the sensory response, the exhibition allows materials, surfaces and proportions to speak together. A space to relax, reflect, and connect.

Tempus invites visitors into a design universe where materials, craft, and longevity take centre stage. Where time is not a threat to design, but the proof of it.

DESIGN AND CRAFT THAT ENDURES

A thoughtful selection of over 30 De La Espada products launched between 2008 and 2025 are on display, designed by De La Espada Atelier, Luca Nichetto, Anthony Guerrée, Neri&Hu, Sam Baron, Autoban, Matthew Hilton, and Studioilse. The pieces reveal the emotion and enduring relevance of design and craft excellence.

A ten-year-old kitchen by Garde Hvalsøe is presented side by side with the latest work from the Danish workshop; crafted to last through the passage of time.

SENSORY ATMOSPHERE

With a creative vision grounded in a serene warmth and tactility, interior stylist Pernille Vest curated the exhibition, hand-selecting products and special objects to create harmonious yet dynamic vignettes and a feeling of welcome. She masterfully crafted an atmosphere that invited interaction.

“My starting point is always the space itself — its light, proportions, and atmosphere. From there, I begin to build a narrative around the kitchens and furniture, allowing materials, textures, and objects to support and enhance what is already present. With De La Espada and Garde Hvalsøe, there is a shared respect for craftsmanship and material honesty, which creates a strong foundation,” says Pernille.

The space is punctuated throughout with lighting by Pinch, rugs by Vandra, and numerous objects at the intersection of art and design including wooden pieces by Pontus Sandevärn, ceramics by Bente Østergaard Sørensen, and tactile tools by Gustav Østerheden.

IN HONOUR OF TIME

In an age of constant renewal, Tempus considers a different relationship with time. As objects move through generations, they accumulate stories, traces of use, emotional importance. They become markers of who we are, where we’ve come from and what we choose to pass on.

In our joint exhibition, De La Espada and Garde Hvalsøe showcase how Portuguese and Danish craft traditions continue to shape contemporary ideas of permanence, quality and inheritance.

The exhibition remains open throughout the summer.
